Ameren Missouri unveils plans to build new hybrid energy center

Ameren Missouri announces it is taking the next step in its generation investment plan by filing an application with the Missouri Public Service Commission to build a new energy center in Jefferson County. The application involves the construction of an 800-megawatt (MW) simple-cycle natural gas generation plant, in addition to Ameren Missouri's first large-scale battery storage facility at one location. Known as the Big Hollow Energy Center, the new facility is designed to efficiently meet increased energy demands while ensuring grid resiliency.

Smart technology helps thousands avoid outages during May 16 tornado

When an EF-3 tornado tore through the St. Louis region on May 16, it left behind a trail of devastation — damaged homes, downed trees and a battered electric grid. Following the aftermath of the storm, more than 2,000 personnel, from throughout the Midwest, descended upon the worst-hit areas of St. Louis to assess the damage, remove debris and restore power to those affected by the tornado. This monumental task included rebuilding more than 100 miles of damaged electric lines and replacing more than 800 power poles affected by the storm. Despite the challenges posed by storm debris, crews were able to safely restore power to more than 100,000 customers in the first 48 hours following the tornado's touchdown.

In preparation for the hot summer weeks ahead, Ameren Missouri donated 900 ENERGY STAR certified window air conditioners to Cooldownstlouis.org and Cooldownmissouri.org to support the company’s most vulnerable customers in St. Louis and throughout Missouri. On average, energy-efficient air conditioners cost less than a dollar a day to operate, allowing customers to stay cool and safe.

Lawmakers wrap up 2025 legislative session

Thursday, May 15, marked the end of the 2025 legislative session. Throughout the course of the session, lawmakers introduced more than 2,600 bills and resolutions between the House of Representatives and the Senate for discussion and debate. Of those measures, 67 proposals were truly agreed to and finally passed. By comparison, the Legislature passed 46 measures in 2024.

Ameren Missouri announces it is nearing completion of a Smart Energy Plan project designed to support greater reliability for more than 9,000 customers in St. Louis' Dogtown neighborhood. The project involves multiple infrastructure upgrades designed to harden the area's electric grid, making it more resilient and reliable during storms, such as the May 16 tornado that touched down in Forest Park. Among the customers supported by these upgrades is the St. Louis Zoo.
