Ameren Missouri to provide additional assistance to customers impacted by severe weather
Aid includes pause in disconnections, special payment arrangements for eligible customers and more
Ameren Missouri recently announced a series of updates to customer assistance programs and process changes aimed at helping those impacted by the May 16 severe weather. These updates and changes are in addition to the $1 million in aid already pledged by the company.
Critical energy infrastructure throughout the St. Louis region was impacted by the May 16 storms.
The updated programs and process changes include:
Pausing disconnects for nonpayment for 60 days (through July 2025) in heavily impacted areas.
Requiring no upfront deposits for new service for 90 days (through August 2025) for customers impacted by storm damage.
Making available a special payment arrangement requiring only 20% down, available for 90 days (throughout August 2025), for impacted customers.
Increasing funds available in the New Start Energy Relief program, which provides up to $1,000 to reestablish service.
Expanding funds available in Ameren Missouri's Weatherization Assistance program to cover certain storm repairs.
Expanding funds available in Ameren Missouri's Dollar More program.
"We recognize the devasting impact the severe weather has had on our community, not only from a disruption of electric service, but from financial and life challenges our customers are facing as they try to recover from this disaster," said Joe Solari, vice president of customer experience at Ameren. "These temporary process changes and expansion of energy assistance are aimed at helping ease some of the burden during this difficult time for our customers in need of support."
The company also announced a $25,000 donation to Heat Up/Cool Down St. Louis to help families impacted by the storms in the St. Louis region pay their energy bills. The company's donation was funded by shareholders and not Ameren ratepayers. For more information on Heat Up/Cool Down St. Louis, please visit heatupstlouis.org.
