Data centers deliver savings for existing customers
Growth of data centers expected to deliver $21 million in projected customer savings
As Missouri continues to attract companies looking to invest and create jobs across the state, including data centers, questions have been raised about the impact on Ameren Missouri's existing customers.
Over the next two years, committed data center projects are expected to drive $21 million in projected base rate savings for Ameren Missouri customers. According to the company's Powering Missouri Growth Plan, in alignment with 2025's Senate Bill 4, these large, energy-intensive customers will not receive discounted electric rates and must pay upfront 100% of all costs associated with connecting to the energy grid.
Under Ameren Missouri's Powering Missouri Growth Plan, large data center customers receive no discounts or incentives and are required to pay their fair share of energy expenses.
Additionally, these data center customers are expected to help lower costs by spreading fixed electric system expenses across a broader customer base. Data center development can also bring substantial economic investment to communities through increased construction activity, permanent jobs and extra support for public services, including schools, first responders and others.
"New large data centers receive no discounts on their electric rates and are already beginning to pay for infrastructure that benefits all customers," said Rob Dixon, vice president of regulatory, governmental and external affairs for Ameren Missouri. "These commitments are already having a positive impact on our customers, showing how growth can make everyone's rates lower than they otherwise would be."
