Castle Bluff Energy Center achieves significant milestone
First turbine moves through St. Louis on its way to the site
Recently, the first turbine for Ameren Missouri's Castle Bluff Energy Center traveled through downtown St. Louis on its way to the project site in St. Louis County. Expected to be operational in 2027, the 800 megawatt (MW), dual fuel simple-cycle energy center will utilize four generating units to produce on-demand power. The energy center will run primarily on natural gas but have the capability to operate with fuel oil in the wintertime.

Built on the site of the Meramec Energy Center, the on-demand power plant is designed to ensure customers have access to reliable power on the coldest of winter nights and the hottest days of summer. Currently, Ameren Missouri maintains a fleet of 40 on-demand natural gas generation units throughout Missouri and Illinois. These units primarily run on natural gas, with some outfitted to use fuel oil.
