Growing customer demand for renewable energy drives Ameren Missouri program expansion
Company receives approval for third solar site dedicated to serving Community Solar program
Ameren Missouri announces the company is moving forward with building a third solar facility to meet the growing demand from customers looking to receive up to 100% of their energy from a renewable resource. This latest site, which was recently approved by the Missouri Public Service Commission, is part of Ameren Missouri's Community Solar program. The 7-megawatt energy center will be located alongside the existing Montgomery Community Solar Center in New Florence, an hour west of St. Louis.
More than 4,700 Ameren Missouri residential and small business customers have signed up to be part of the Community Solar program, with up to 100% of their energy usage to be sourced from one of the company’s dedicated Community Solar facilities.
Construction of the new facility is anticipated to begin as early as spring of next year, with the goal of serving customers in 2026. The project represents the third solar energy center Ameren Missouri has built since the inception of its Community Solar program and will be built on property owned by the company. The program's first energy center was constructed at St. Louis Lambert International Airport and went into service in 2019. The Montgomery facility began serving customers in 2022.
“The Community Solar program is an easy way for customers to support renewables and accelerate solar energy development, all without having to install their own solar panels,” said Greg Lovett, program manager for Community Solar at Ameren Missouri.
