Hitachi Energy celebrates significant milestone at Jefferson City plant
Ameren Missouri supplier produces 3,000,000th unit at its distribution transformer factory
Hitachi Energy, a global leader in medium and high voltage transformer manufacturing, announces the company has reached a significant milestone at its factory in Jefferson City. Recently, the company completed production of its 3,000,000th unit at its distribution transformer factory in the Capital City.
First opened by Westinghouse in 1972, Hitachi Energy's Jefferson City location specializes in the production of electrical transformers. Over the years, the facility has expanded its capabilities, incorporated new technologies and increased sustainable practices to enhance productivity and reduce its environmental impact. Currently, the factory employs more than 1,000 employees.
Employees at Hitachi Energy's Jefferson City plant celebrate their 3,000,000th transformer-produced milestone.
"We are incredibly proud to reach this milestone," said Greg Callahan, factory manager for Hitachi Energy's distribution transformer factory in Jefferson City. "This achievement reflects the relentless effort of our team and the trust our customers place in us. As we celebrate the production of our 3,000,000th unit, we remain focused on our mission of safety and to deliver exceptional products that meet or exceed customer expectations."
The first transformer produced at the plant in Jefferson City was for Union Electric Company, which later became Ameren Missouri.
As a supplier to Ameren Missouri, Hitachi Energy's products have played an important role in the company's Smart Energy Plan. Since 2019, Ameren Missouri's Smart Energy Plan has represented the company's roadmap to making the state's electrical grid more resilient and reliable. Throughout the history of the Smart Energy Plan, Hitachi Energy products have been used on numerous projects to help keep the state's electric grid stable and strong, and they can also be found at Ameren Missouri's generation facilities and throughout the company's service territory. However, the relationship between Hitachi's plant in Jefferson City and Ameren Missouri goes back much further than the Smart Energy Plan. When the plant opened in 1972, the first transformer that came off its assembly line was for Union Electric Company, a company that would later become known as Ameren Missouri.
The first transformer produced at the plant in Jefferson City was named Big MO.
"Congratulations to Hitachi Energy for achieving this historic milestone," said Ryan Arnold, vice president of Energy Delivery for Ameren Missouri. "For many years, Hitachi Energy has been a critical partner in Ameren Missouri's efforts to support increased reliability for our customers throughout the Show-Me State. By supplying state-of-the-art equipment – products made in Missouri, by Missourians, for Missourians – Hitachi Energy plays a vital role in our ability to meet our customers' needs."
According to Hitachi Energy, the 3,000,000th unit is scheduled to be delivered to a well-known data center customer.
