Smart Energy Plan upgrades to help withstand spring storms
Severe weather has hit hard in North St. Louis County during previous storm seasons, resulting in a high number of outages for residents and businesses. Thanks to the Smart Energy Plan, Ameren Missouri is focused on improving energy reliability in this community. New lines, poles and smart technology will help keep the lights on in North County when severe weather events become a threat.
Several communities will benefit from a 5-mile project where storm hardening equipment is being added to protect 3,600 customers, including St. Louis Lambert International Airport. Hardening the energy system will better withstand the impact of storms and high winds and reduce the frequency and duration of outages for customers.
In addition to the $10.7 million commitment on this 5-mile project, Ameren Missouri has spent an additional $15 million improving reliability in North St. Louis County since the Smart Energy Plan began in 2019. Along with communities in the St. Louis region, more than 2,000 Smart Energy Plan projects to upgrade the energy infrastructure are planned across Ameren Missouri's service territory through 2023.
