Missouri legislators learn how new Craig Substation is benefitting their constituents in Creve Coeur
"Limiting outages and keeping the power on…what we're all about is keeping the power on for our customers," said Amir Lilienthal, supervisor, relay test systems, Ameren Missouri.
Lilienthal recently helped host a tour of the new Craig Substation in Creve Coeur for Sen. Jill Schupp (D-24, St. Louis) and Rep. Tracy McCreery (D-88, St. Louis) to provide them more information about the substation which replaces the old Craig Substation on Olive Road. The legislators got a first-hand look as an Ameren Missouri relay crew was conducting final testing prior to putting the substation into service at the end of September.
"I really enjoyed the tour and I learned so much about how a substation works; especially this one, which provides power to Ameren Missouri customers in the Creve Coeur area, who are also my constituents," said McCreery. "These tours help educate legislators, especially those of us that are members of utility committees, about the Smart Energy Plan and how Ameren Missouri is investing in the energy grid since the legislature passed SB564 in 2018."

"We're replacing an aging substation built in 1959 with a new state-of-the-art substation built with smart technology that will more rapidly detect and isolate issues speeding power restoration if a problem occurs; sometimes seconds instead of hours for 5,000 customers in Creve Coeur," said Josh Skelly, project manager, Ameren Missouri.
"The new $13.2 million Craig Substation is built with six switchgears made in Fulton, at AZZ Switchgear Systems and three, 34-kilovolt (kV) transformers built in Washington, MO, by WEG Transformers," said Warren Wood, vice president, regulatory and legislative affairs, Ameren Missouri. "Built in Missouri, by Missourians for Ameren Missouri customers creates jobs and supports economic growth in our state."
"Keeping our partners and suppliers local helps the economy grow and at the same time is modernizing Missouri's energy grid," said Rick Eastman, senior legislative representative, Ameren Missouri. "Through our Smart Energy Plan projects, we have made tremendous progress in upgrading our energy grid over the past two-and-a-half years. And, much more remains to be done over the second half of our five-year plan, and beyond."
