Power Profile: Marty Lyons, New Ameren Missouri President
Ameren Missouri has a new chairman and president: Marty Lyons.
The move was part of a leadership change-up within the company, where the heads of two Ameren subsidiaries switched roles. On December 1, Lyons’ predecessor, Michael Moehn, took over as executive vice president and CFO of Ameren Corporation and president of Ameren Services – the position previously held by Lyons.
The change is designed to strengthen Ameren’s senior leadership expertise.
“I am really excited about the change. It's about giving us the opportunity to work in different roles, broaden our experiences and deepen our knowledge, which at the end of the day makes us better leaders,” Lyons said. “Ultimately, it supports an even more collaborative work environment within the company and better results for customers, co-workers, and investors.”
He noted not to expect any sweeping changes anytime soon. Lyons feels Ameren Missouri is currently headed in the right direction and the company will remain flexible in order to keep up with business conditions and customer expectations.
Safety is a value at Ameren, he noted. “There is a tremendous focus on safety as well as customer satisfaction at Ameren Missouri, as we make critical investments in the energy infrastructure – both gas and electric,” he said.
One of the ongoing opportunities for Ameren Missouri is making investments that drive great customer value as the company develops a smarter, safer, more reliable, and cleaner energy grid, according to Lyons.
“We are working hard to meet the promises of the Smart Energy Plan,” Lyons said. “I see moving forward the need for continued significant investment in our state's electric grid, to not only make it a smarter, safer, and more reliable, but also to transform it to handle energy innovation and customers' rising expectations."
“I continue to see a need for a balanced mix of resources to serve our customers and our communities,” he added. “I see value in the mix we have today of nuclear, fossil, wind, solar, and hydro resources. Over time, expect the incorporation of more renewable energy sources – wind, solar, and perhaps other technologies.”
Lyons has been with Ameren for nearly two decades and held a variety of positions within the St. Louis-based utility company. In 2009, he was elected as executive vice president and chief financial officer of Ameren Corporation, the parent organization, and, in 2015, he was selected as president of Ameren Services.
Before joining Ameren in 2001, he was a partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP. Lyons is a member of the America Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Missouri Society of Certified Public Accountants.
“I feel great about the plans Ameren Missouri has in place. I’m excited to be part of the team and to keep the company moving in a positive direction,” Lyons said. “I firmly believe that we have the right plans, people, and initiatives to bring value to our customers and the communities we serve, which will ensure Ameren Missouri's continued success."
